How Many Homegirls Does It Take To Jump A Timeline?
Behold, the earthly and ancestral homegirls as mythic figures. Without them, no lone woman can push – or be pulled – through the gutters of growth and pain into states of flourishing.
Part portal, part altar, this piece stands as an offering and an evidence of those who intervene when life collapses in on itself, bending time as an act of love so that true healing becomes possible.
Created for Once Upon A Time, Rust-en-Vrede Gallery + Clay Museum
Traditional myths and folklore often centre gods, kings and heroes. This work rearranges that hierarchy so that the mythic act belongs to women, to friendship, to the collective force of holding one another through transformation. It expands what counts as myth from otherworldly to intimate, from divine to domestic, from ancient to now.
The title poses a question that turns pain into cosmic comedy and gestures toward the higher and happier ground reached through it. Clay does not describe a story, it enacts it. Every detail carries the record of that story as it fortifies into myth, shaped by my hands and by the unseen ones who steady them.
