Yes Temple
This piece is the shape of a cellular ‘yes’. The thing you feel milliseconds before inspiration floods your system, and you move ahead to map your way from ignition to clarity.
It is the key that tips you over into suspending disbelief, so that you can live from the place that creates fairytale, myth and legend. It’s the feeling that leads you to the personal lore you are proud of.
Created for Once Upon A Time, Rust-en-Vrede Gallery + Clay Museum
Made for an exhibition exploring fairytales, myth and folklore, Yes Temple responds by zooming all the way in on the origin experience of creatorship. Rather than retelling a story, it embodies the charge that gives the story form: the first internal ‘yes’ that allows creation to take shape.
Made freestyle, without a plan or sketch, it followed the pull of that yes through every stage of making. Each minute detail records a step in the making of something true. The finished piece is a visible record of what it feels like to begin.
